Campus Safety and Security continued to monitor the police search for federal parole violator Randall McFadden, who has family ties to the Olean area, according to Gary Segrue, director of Safety and Security.

McFadden, 60, recently completed a 30-year federal prison sentence. He walked away from the Renewal Center in Pittsburgh on Oct. 6, violating the conditions of his parole.

McFadden served time for mailing a destructive device with intent to kill or injure, possession of a firearm and damaging and destroying a building owned by the U.S. Postal Service, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. McFadden sent a pipe bomb through the mail addressed to an Olean woman, but the bomb exploded in a Wexford, Pennsylvania, post office 30 years ago, causing no injuries.

The U.S. Marshals Service Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force searched for McFadden. While police said they do not presume McFadden is in or headed toward to Olean area, the university shared the information with students as a safety precaution, according to Segrue.

Segrue said he is in contact with area law enforcement agencies, which update him on the investigation, and he will advise the campus community accordingly.

Members of the campus community should immediately contact 911 or Safety and Security at 375-2525 if they see McFadden, Segrue said.
