The international fashion capital, New York City, hosted the annual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week last week, officially beginning on Sept. 10.
Designers, editors and celebrities all gathered together to get the scoop on the latest fashion trends for spring 2016, bonding over the street styles of fellow participants.

As the models took the stage, donning looks from popular designers, onlookers were immediately greeted by the newest trends, as well as a few familiar styles from previous seasons.

Loose, flowing garments were a popular trend at New York Fashion Week (NYFW), as a number of designers, such as Diane Von Furstenberg and Nicole Miller, opted to create effortless and feminine silhouettes with loose, lightweight fabrics such as silk and lace in the form of dresses, jackets and the classic jumpsuit.

Designer Tommy Hilfiger curated a show inspired by the Caribbean Islands, featuring the popular color combination red, green, black and yellow, reminiscent of Rastafarian culture. The designer featured familiar summer styles like the popular maxi dresses, crochet halter top and even restored the iconic Rastafarian knit tee, presumably one of the most anticipated trends for 2016.

Designers like Monique Lhuillier reinforced the 2015 monochromatic trend by using muted colors like black and white with vibrant lace overlay, neon colors and feminine, floral prints.

Alexander Wang remained true to the experimental essence of his brand by combining both gothic and sportswear. Wang showcased an array of garments embedded in the colors black, gray and white, establishing pairings like stripes with spikes, silk, oversized jackets, basic hoodies with fringe and leather on denim.

Vests are a thing of the past as harnesses have replaced them on the NYFW stages. The piece graced the stages of designers like Carolina Herrara and Phillip Lim, adding a bit of army edge to flared skirts and oversized, sporty tops.

NYFW designers, like Serena Williams, also added elements of bohemian fashion to their 2016 spring lines by featuring the classic bell-bottom pants in floral prints and pastel colors.

While fashion week has concluded in New York, fans of these newly arising styles can look forward to London Fashion Week Sept. 18 through 22 for new looks from different designers.
