On March 17, St. Bonaventure University will launch a chapter of Her Campus.

Kiara Catanzaro, a senior journalism and mass communication major, and Lauren Zazzara, a sophomore journalism and mass communication major, will lead the new Bonaventure chapter of Her Campus.

Although St. Bonaventure is introducing Her Campus to students and faculty, the company has been established since 2009.

Her Campus is on online community for college women. More than 5,000 college journalists contribute for sections such as: style, beauty, health, love, life, career, LGBTQ+, high school and real world.

“I’m excited to get students here involved writing for each of the six different posts we have to upload per week,” Zazzara said. “We can meet new people, better our writing skills and get more acclimated with working for an online publication, which is so important now. Writers will have the freedom to show their personalities and ideas in their posts in a way that they can’t as much with other forms of media on campus.”

Her Campus does not limit itself to one campus. According to HerCampus.com, more than 250 college campuses have chapters of Her Campus.

Windsor Hanger Western, Stephanie Kaplan Lewis and Annie Wang created a business plan for Her Campus and submitted the idea in Harvard College’s business plan competition, i3 Innovation Challenge in 2009. After winning the competition, they moved to New York City for the summer and launched the business.

According to HerCampus.com, My Campus chapter is a section on HerCampus.com devoted to your school with six content areas, features, blogs, campus celebrities, campus cuties, snapshot and events, so readers from your school can have an individualized experience on HerCampus.com.

Catanzaro and Zazzara will be responsible for building a staff, leading their section in producing weekly content and publicizing the chapter on campus. They have sent out Facebook posts and an Internet poll to gauge interest for readers and writers on Bonaventure’s campus.

Laura Meyers, a senior journalism and mass communications major, is looking forward to writing for Her Campus, relating the online magazine to Cosmo.

“I enjoy writing and I think this online magazine provides me an opportunity to practice my writing skills for something fun and interesting,” Meyers said.

Meyers had never heard of Her Campus prior to the chapter being brought to Bonaventure, but she has a lot of writing experience.

“I’ve always been pretty busy as a writer,” Meyers said. “My classes have been heavily writing based and my internships in public relations also involve a lot of writing. These past experiences will help me out a lot.”
