The Plassmann Hall parking lot lighting underwent emergency repair this week.

The light pole at the north end of the lot suffered the loss of the underground electric feeder leaving the lot unacceptably dark, according to Phil Winger, associate vice president for facilities.

A temporary light was put on the roof of the Murphy Professional building.

“We have to dig up the lot to run a new electric line,” Winger said. “The poles are not designed for overhead wires, even if we wanted to accept the aesthetics.”

Previously the light pole obstructed the driving lane. To lessen the extent of the excavation and permanently improve the lot, the pole will be moved into one of the medians, Winger said.

“It’s old location was a byproduct of the lights preceding the asphalt there by several years,” Winger said.

The maintenance department contingency repair funds will cover the cost.

Repairs would be completed this week, Winger said.
