Be bold with oxblood

On every website, in every store and on every fashion-related social media that I follow, the color oxblood has been everywhere. It is seen on clothes, on lips, on shoes, on nails and even hair. This deep burgundy color can be easily translated to any personal style and can instantly give your outfit a warm and autumnal vibe. Here’s how:

One of my favorite ways to incorporate oxblood is by wearing a sweater or cardigan. Over a neutral-colored outfit, such as all-black or all-white, an oxblood cardigan adds a pop of color that isn’t too in your face.  A burgundy sweater looks great with a pair of black jeans or a black skirt with black boots. After all, fall and winter are about embracing those dark colors in your closet to match the dismal skies.

I love deep red for bottoms as well. Pair some maroon velvet shorts with black or gray tights. Or try a pair of colored skinny jeans to match with a white button down. Guys could pull off this look too, as long as the pants were more on the red side. They would look great with a cozy sweater or sweatshirt and a pair of canvas sneakers.

Oxblood is even popping up in shoes. The brand Free People is selling a pair of beautiful maroon ankle boots (which are ridiculously expensive) that are perfect for fall. But oxblood also works for ballet flats and loafers if you aren’t a fan of boots.

If you are feeling daring, try oxblood on your lips. Dark lips were all over runways for fall because they instantly add an edge to even the sweetest or most feminine outfit. A dark matte lipstick makes a big statement, so to dip your toes in the water try a lip stain, tinted lip balm or gloss.

The easiest way to incorporate the oxblood trend into your look is on your nails. Choose a dark red/purple and wear with confidence!
