Werewolves,  zombies and walking skeletons will soon make a rare appearance on campus.

The hip-hop team is holding its annual Halloween performance in the Rigas Family Theater of the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on Oct. 28 and 29. The show will begin at 7 p.m.

Hip-Hop coach Jacqueline Gertner, a senior history major, gave some insight on what the team has been doing to prepare for its upcoming show.

“We’ve been having practice about five times a week,” Gertner said. “Some people have even been here four hours a day.”

Gertner added that on Sundays, four-hour-long practices are held. Everyone on the team is not in every dance for the show. Each person has specific pieces that he or she practices for during the practice times. The number of dances a member takes part in varies.

With the performance date quickly approaching, extensive practice hours are vital to ensure that this show will be as good as previous shows, if not better.

“The hip-hop team has had a really good reputation of putting on good shows for not only the students but also for the community,” Gertner said.

This year’s show will be hosted by two emcee’s who are expected to add some humor to the horror. The emcee’s will open the show and introduce each dance. The names of the emcee’s have not been made public.

“Those who come can expect to see a lot of weird and creepy classic Halloween costumes,” Gertner said. “But the show is funny too. There are elements of humor.”

With the variety of spooky characters and dances, the show is expected to be a huge thriller. One of the dancers, Denise Muyibi, a junior education major shared that her favorite dances in the show are “wolves” and “grave diggers.”

“The music for these two dances is music that gets me pumped,” Muyibi said. “The dances are just fun.”

Aside from rigorous practices, the team worked on raising funds that would allow them to pay for things such as costumes and props for the show. They worked together to sell themed baskets and hip-hop jerseys at this year’s Bonagany.

Gertner is proud of her team’s efforts thus far and is thrilled for opening night. Tickets cost $3 for students and $5 for adults.

“Our team is extremely hardworking and dedicated,” Muyibi said. “I’m not just saying this. It’s really true. We look at each other as family. We communicate very well with each other. The team’s relationship will make this show a success.”
