Layer it up

This is the most difficult time of the year to find an outfit because the temperature fluctuates so much throughout the day. It feels like winter in the morning, and you can almost see your breath. If you dress too warm, by the afternoon you are drenched in sweat in the hot sun. By dusk, you are shivering in the chilly breeze once again. It is a hassle to change your outfit for all of the temperature changes throughout the day, therefore, you have to be resourceful. Layering is the best way to make sure you are comfortable all day long, and usually you only have to add or remove one piece of clothing.

Say it’s going to be 65 degrees during the day.  That’s a good temperature for jeans and a blouse or a tank top. But in the morning it will probably be 45 degrees, and you will definitely want your arms to be covered. Girls can try a chunky cardigan, kimono or a flannel to layer over their tops and add a cozy fall-like vibe. A distressed denim jacket or moto jacket adds an edge to more feminine tops. If it’s really cold, layer a cardigan, kimono or flannel under a jacket. If you choose to wear a dress or skirt, you can still put on a cardigan or jacket, and you can cover up your legs with stockings, opaque or patterned tights. Ankle boots will cover your feet and add a cool vibe to a feminine outfit.girl layering

Guys can choose to wear jeans with a T-shirt or a button-down in this weather. But in the morning one layer is not going to be enough. You can put a hooded sweatshirt on over your ensemble or a lightweight canvas or leather jacket. For extra warmth, you can put a sweatshirt under a jacket. Canvas sneakers, boat shoes or desert boots will keep your feet warm but not sweltering when it reaches the high temperature in the afternoon.

As the temperature warms up, you can remove each layer until you are left with the initial shirt or top. As it cools down, bundle back up again. For extra warmth, you can put on a scarf, beanie or wool socks.

Hopefully these tips help you to not go back to your room every two hours for an outfit change. Make use of all of the different items in your closet by layering to bundle up, and you will find that you might even save money by finding new uses for what you already have.
