The golf, tennis and cross country teams have began their respective fall seasons this weekend, marking the beginning of St. Bonaventure’s fall sports schedule.

The golf team will begin its season tomorrow at the Colgate Invitational at Colgate University, which will end on Sunday. Teams competing at the invitational will be similar to those that competed last year including, but not limited to, Colgate, Bucknell, Niagara, Siena, Fordham, Rider and Lafayette. The Bonnies are led by redshirt sophomore Darren Simmons, juniors Pat Milkovich and Josh Stauffer and senior Daniel Dunnigan. Milkovich had a productive off season, finishing tied for eighth place in the New York State Men’s Amateur Golf Championship, which took place at Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse. This will be the team’s first season with its new head coach, Erik Hoops. Hoops, a former assistant coach at the University of Toledo, helped the team finish third in the 2014 Mid-American Conference championship tournament.

The men’s tennis team opened its season on Wednesday against Houghton, winning 7-0. Both tennis teams will head to Annapolis, Maryland today for the Navy Invite. The men’s team will be facing Navy and Temple tomorrow, and the women’s opponents are to be announced. The invite is set to last until Sunday. Junior Taylor Cole (who has since transferred) and sophomore Emily Rosman were both named 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athletes, and the women’s team was named one of its 2014 All-Academic Teams. Alumni Elliot Fanshel and senior Trevor Haskell were also named 2014 Scholar-Athletes for the ITA.

The cross country teams opened up their seasons last Saturday with the Little 3 meet against Canisius and Niagara. The men’s team finished 3rd in the meet. Senior Harley Thompson had the fastest time for the Bonnies with a 16:27. The women finished second at the meet, led by junior Kerry Caher with a time of 17:55.5. Caher finished first overall in the meet, but it wasn’t good enough to win the meet for the Bonnies. Caher was named Atlantic 10 Co-Performer of the Week along with sophomore Autumn Greba of Duquesne. Both cross country teams continue their season tomorrow at the University of Buffalo for the UB Stampede Invitational.
