For the Bonnies Lacrosse team, the season so far has been a struggle, but the team is still continuing to remain positive as they approach the second half of the season. For the rest of the season, the team will play conference games to try to clinch a spot for the Atlantic 10 Conference playoffs.

The team will play George Mason on Friday at 1 p.m. at Alfred University on Merrill Field. The game against George Washington will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m., but the location has yet to be determined.

“The nice thing about conference play is starting over again as we go into Friday because we are 0-0 going into conference,” Coach Ryan Lynn said.

Therefore, the girls are ready for the long weekend after waiting a week since the game against Delaware State was canceled.

Lynn said that the game strategy will focus on possession.

“(We want to) control possession and to slow down the game to be manageable with the numbers we have,” Lynn said.

Lynn said George Mason will be a good matchup for St. Bonaventure’s offense and defense. Also, George Washington will play very well since they are quick, according to Lynn.

“(The team just needs to be) mentally prepared to play well against both teams for the entire sixty minutes,” said Lynn.

In addition to seeing the positives about playing the conference games, two athletes on the team have been playing very well and are currently first in the A-10 conference in different statistical categories. Senior goalkeeper Sara Schlagenhauf is first in shots faced with  68. Also, sophomore midfielder LeighAnn Stauffer is first in draw controls per game with three.

“Sara has definitely been stepping up for us. It’s something we need since we have such a young offense and defense. Since there are a lot of shots on net, the more she can come up with and gain us some possessions, and get the ball down in the offensive end, the better we are,” Lynn said,”

Lynn also praised Stauffer’s play of late.

“LeighAnn is starting to step for us as well lately,” he said. “They are looking for a little bit more consistency out of her as a sophomore and to step into that leadership role on offense, but she has definitely mentally started to click on the offensive end and to get after the opportunities that we do have.”
