While in Richmond, Va. for the Women’s Atlantic 10 basketball tournament, Assistant Sports Information Director Brian Moretti, 25, went into apparent cardiac arrest Wednesday night and passed away shortly after, the university announced Thursday morning.
He was at dinner in a Richmond restaurant with his A-10 colleagues.
Moretti’s main job was media relations for the women’s basketball team. He played an active role in helping student media get access to Division I players and coaches.
He began working at Bonaventure this past fall after spending the last two years in Canisius College’s athletic office.
Moretti attended Johnson & Wales University, where he got his undergraduate degree in Sports/Entertainment/Event Management. He was also a part of the hockey team and served as a student assistant in the Athletic Office.
Moretti will be remembered for his high energy and enthusiasm around campus, and he will be missed greatly in the Department of Athletics and around the Bonaventure Community.
The university will announce funeral arrangements to students and faculty once they are confirmed.
