Hi all and welcome to this week’s Fashion Focus. As award season is well under way, this week we’ll be talking about the most glamorous evening of the awards so far. Yes, I have taken it upon myself to rename last Sunday night’s Los Angeles event, the Glammys.

Apart from the unforgettable performances from the music industry’s finest, there were also some beautiful ensembles that graced the red carpet.

First off, the dresses where stunning. I noticed two main trends that seemed to be very popular: white and metallic. Among my favorite dresses were Beyonce’s white, floor-length lace dress. The woman could wear a garbage bag and still look amazing, but this was a beautiful dress. Love her or hate her, Taylor Swift looked amazing in both of her dresses. One dress was metallic gold and, her performance dress was an off-white chiffon. Another of my favorite looks was Rita Ora’s metallic gold-green shift dress. On paper that sounds like a disaster; however, I thought it was gorgeous and simply styled. I have put together two boards of the best dressed in my eyes and another board of how you can create Grammy glamour for a fraction of the price.

I was very impressed by the males of the night and the fabulous array of suits. The original and always classic black suits was not as popular as it often is. Instead we seen quirky, patterned and textured suits that took center stage. I particularly liked Macklemore’s green velvet suit and Ryan Lewis’s metallic and black hounds-tooth suit– however controversial. I also loved Kendrick Lamar’s blue suit and silk T- shirt. Again, this sounds like a fashion disaster in theory, but he wore it perfectly. Hunter Hayes kept his look simple and classic wearing a very nice black suit with silk lapels. I have put together two boards: One with my favorite male looks and the other with how you can recreate the suited and booted look from the high street.

2.Missguided: Metallic Dark Gold Sequin Shift Dress $63.74

3.Missguided: Cream Lace Top Skater Skirt Dress $63.74

4.Missguided: White Maxi Dress $63.47

These are two trends that can either be fashion forward or a fashion faux pa. When recreating the metallic look, try to keep it simple. Your dress should capture all the attention. Due to the eye-catching material, keep the accessories minimal, wear a simple sandal and carry a statement clutch to finish off the look. Similar to metallic, white can be a tricky trend to pull off, but again, keep it simple. I personally like to add a pop of color to a white dress depending on the season. In winter, I would choose black or maroon accessories. However, in the summer I would go for blue or coral pink.

Colored suits are a huge trend. It has been coming for a while, but it has finally caught on. Some people think suits should be plain either black or grey. I think it’s time to move away from the dull suits and choose something a little different. I understand some people will not go for this, so if you are going to stick to the ever classic black suit, which of course will never go out of style, try a velvet jacket or one with textured or silk lapels. River Island has a brilliant range of high-quality suits.

Choosing a suit that will last and look great for many occasions is not as difficult as it seems. Pick one that feels comfortable but makes you feel important. Remember; look good, feel good, do good.
