The St. Bonaventure women’s swimming team hasn’t competed in a meet in more than a month, but the Bonnies have been staying busy.

“We’ve been kicking the snot out of them,” Head Coach Seth Johnson joked.

Over the pre-semester break, the Bonnies took a training trip to Florida and spent a week training on campus.

“Winter break is always used as a prime training time,” Johnson said. “Our kids were here for about a week after finals ended training two or three times a day then had a break for Christmas. Then we were down in Florida for eight days doing the same thing going through practices a day down there.”

The Bonnies trained with the season finale Atlantic 10 Championships in mind Johnson said.

“It’s kind of a last push to get some much needed training in to set ourselves up for A-10s right before we start resting,” Johnson said.

The Brown and White put in good work during their training sessions, and will be looking to see how it pays off at the end of the year, according to Johnson.

“I was very happy with how we trained. This probably was one of our best training sessions that we’ve had both the week prior to Christmas and the week down in Florida in terms of consistency,” Johnson said.

After weeks of intense training, the Bonnies are looking forward to getting back into the pool and racing as they prepare for Saturday’s meet against Binghamton.

“It’s a time to get back up and race,” Johnson said. “We haven’t had a meet since the first week in December at Akron. It’s really just a time to get up and remember why you put in all the hard work. You put in all the hard work to get up and race a little bit. Sometimes when you have a big break, you forget about that.”

Johnson said he’s anxious to see where the team is and how much more work they have to do to be ready for A-10s.

“It’s a time to see where we are at coming off a training trip,” Johnson said. “You never know coming off a training trip how sharp you are going to be, but second-semester meets are a good gauge to see where we are at and what adjustments need to be made before we start to rest for championships.”
