Bonnies should give back by joining Walk for Warmth

With winter and cold weather quickly approaching, it’s the time of the year when people should be truly thankful if they have a warm home for the holidays. When the wind begins to pick up and the snow begins to fall, there’s nothing quite like being wrapped up inside a cozy blanket and eating dinner with your family.

But the sad fact is some people are not fortunate enough to have these luxuries.
This season, the St. Bonaventure community has the opportunity to give back to those who aren’t as privileged as others.
On Sunday, Nov. 24, St. Bonaventure is hosting the Walk for Warmth, a 5K walk/run on the Allegheny River Trail. All proceeds will go to our very own Warming House. It only costs $5 to participate or $10 if you want a T-shirt. You can register online at walkforwarmth.webs.com or at 11:30 a.m. on the day of the walk at the registration table, according to the organization’s website.
If you want to do more than donate money, you can donate specific items to the Warming House, including paper towels, coffee or gift cards to differing places in the Olean and Allegany area, like TOPS, Ried’s Food Barn and ALDI. After the walk, there will be refreshments and raffle drawings available on the Hickey Dining Hall lawn.
The holiday season is a time to be thankful for what you have and to give back to those who aren’t as fortunate. Next week, many students will be leaving campus and going home to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends.
Why not make the holiday a little more enjoyable for someone who might not be able to afford a turkey?
Come to the Walk for Warmth Sunday, and help everyone remember what this time of year is really about — giving.
