St. Bonaventure University’s Mock Trial club will now be selling discount cards to students for $8 in the Reilly Center ticket office throughout the year.

The discount card can be used at various businesses including: Main Street Sweets, Cold Stone Creamery, Tim Horton’s, Electric Beach Olean, Mangia Real NY Pizza, Unique Nail Salon and the bookstore, according to Alexandra Perl, head of fundraising for the Mock Trial club.

“We decided to do a fundraiser this year because we are hoping to be able to attend more Mock Trial tournaments,” Perl said.

“We are raising money this year in hopes of making it passed regionals because moving on to the next round would cost more than we have in our current budget,” Perl said. “Also, the money will go toward supplementing the cost of the tournaments that are in place for this year.”

Perl, a senior international studies major, said students can also purchase a discount card from the members of Mock Trial and the card is good until Aug. 31, 2014.

“Students are allowed to use the card as often as they attend the specific businesses that are listed on the card,” Perl said. “Also, Students can email their questions about the discount card at sbumock@sbu.edu.”

Carl Siegel, a club member, explained how purchasing a discount card will benefit students as well as members of the Mock Trial club.

“I know many students at St. Bonaventure buy coffee from Tim Horton’s multiple times throughout the week,” said Siegel, a freshman political science major. “If students purchase a card, they will save more money and they will help our club with our yearly fundraiser in the process.”

Siegel explained how students will benefit from joining the Mock Trial club.

“Students will gain experience to develop skills in critical thinking, public speaking and confidence,” Siegel said. “There is also a Mock Trial class; however students don’t have to participate in the class to join the club.”

Students who are interested in Mock Trial club can direct their questions to Steve Nuttal, internship coordinator for philosophy and law, at nuttall@sbu.edu.
