As the first day of fall approaches, students around campus are getting excited to celebrate some of their seasonal favorites. Offering long-time traditions, scrumptious treats, fashion wear and more, fall symbolizes a time of comfort and fun.

Although the fashion-conscious group focuses on style year-round, Bonaventure students seem especially fond of popular fall fashion wear.

“My favorite thing to do in the fall is dress up in scarves, boots and other fall attire,” junior biology major Asha Matthews said. “It’s my favorite type of clothing to wear, and I enjoy the cooler weather.”

Senior journalism and mass communication major Makeda Loney also reflected on her adoration of season-focused style.

“The thing I love most about fall is the fashion and being able to dress warmer,” Loney said. “It’s also an excuse for me to wear scarves every day. I really like scarves and all the pretty colors of fall.”

In almost every case, comfy clothing and tasty treats go hand in hand. Pumpkin and apple-flavored delicacies are in high demand this time of year, especially at beverage establishments such as Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts.

“In the fall, I look forward to having either a pumpkin spiced latte or a slice of pumpkin pie with cool whip,” said Gerard Stankewicz, a sophomore undeclared major.

Sarah Southwell, a senior sociology major, shares Stankewicz’s love for seasonal beverages as well an appreciation for the fall’s natural beauty.

“So far this year, I’ve been looking forward to Cranberry Splash Sierra Mist and apple cider,” Southwell said. “I also love driving or riding around and viewing the scenery. I even love the crunch of the leaves.”

The world’s natural beauty comes alive throughout the fall months. Allison Plante, a sophomore strategic communications and digital media major, said she finds solace in her hometown environment.

“In the fall, I look forward to grapes. My hometown, Naples, N.Y., is known for grapes, wine and grape pies,” Plante said. “When fall rolls around in my town, the smell of grapes and wine is heavy in the air. Plus, my hometown is beautiful when the leaves begin to turn. It is my favorite time of the year, hands down.”

Of course, it wouldn’t be fall without football. Many students are loyal sports fans, so for them, chilly weather, delicious snacks and a game on television is complete bliss. AJ Vitanza, a junior management and marketing major, looks forward to fall  for just that reason.

“I look forward to going to sporting events on Saturday afternoons, wearing my sweatshirts and warm clothes, the leaves on the trees and lazy NFL Sundays,” Vitanza said.

Recalling family traditions that left a lasting memory can also make a specific time of year feel special.

“I remember when we were little, my sister and I would make wreaths with the leaves and hang them on the door,” said Heather Rafan, a senior education major.

This celebratory season has so much to offer. It can be expected that the Bonaventure community will gladly welcome the start of the season on Sunday with a warm drink in hand and a football game playing in the background.
