Put away the winter jackets and heavy boots, because spring has finally graced Bonaventure with its presence. The time has arrived for us to re-introduce our skin to the sun. It is time to consult your closet and find the best looks of spring 2013.

Colorful prints made their way into this spring’s fashion lineup. Busy-patterned leggings stand out from a typical yoga pant look. Yoga pants are quite comfortable, but let’s face it. It’s time to liven up the wardrobe.

Freshman journalism and mass communication major Jasmine Foster agreed that spring is the time to experiment with color.

“You can mix and match with colors in the spring,” Foster said. “I like to bring out the bold and electric colors for spring. Floral patterns are also fun to wear during this season.”

Color is not the only important factor featured during spring. Long and billowy clothing takes comfort and confidence to a different level.

“I love the long skirt and dress look,” Foster said. “You can pair them with wedges, chunky jewelry or a nice cardigan.”

Crop tops have also become a popular trend for the warm season. Although they have less material, outfit options are endless. Pair the midriff exposed top with a pair of waist shorts, short or long skirts or jeans.

“If weather permits, a crop top is a great option,” Foster said. “It is about how you wear them though. I always say that dressing for your body type is the best thing about fashion. No matter what size you are, you can look flawless if you compliment your body in the right way.”

Men’s fashion also has trends for the season that reflect confidence and style.

Jake Driscoll, a freshman strategic communication and digital media major, enjoys strolling around campus with a fresh look.

“Now that it’s warm outside, I like to wear thin cotton shirts with a pair of colorful shorts,” Driscoll said.

Driscoll said he believes the colorful shorts trend is timeless.

“I bought a pair of turquoise shorts,” Driscoll said. “Not only do they last, but they look nice. I also try to have a variety in my wardrobe. I like to wear different pants once in a while instead of jeans every day.”

As for shoes, Sperry’s rightfully remain a bestseller for students on campus.

“I’ve been wearing my boat shoes a lot lately,” Driscoll said. “They have been around for some time, but they still do the job. They’re better than wearing the typical pair of sneakers or flip-flops.”

With winter behind us, spring has brought back the sun and the heat. Expect to see fewer layers and more colors. Spring is now is session – make sure to dress accordingly.
