Michael Ryan, president and CEO of Ryan Media Consultants, will speak at 7 p.m. April 25 in the Dresser Auditorium of the Murphy Professional Building about his new book, “The BOOM! BOOM! Book: Practical tips to make sure your career doesn’t go bust.”

The lecture will encourage students to take risks in their future careers in order to follow their passions, according to an April 3 university press release.

“I’ve had some great mentors and I’m eager to share their advice and the knowledge that I’ve gained throughout my career,” Ryan said. “I’m going to share some advice that I provide in (my book).”

Ryan said his book’s theme is based on the 2000 movie, “Pay It Forward.”

“These are concepts and ideas that students likely aren’t taught in school,” said Ryan.

Ryan graduated from SBU in 1977 and since then has gained 35 years of media experience.

“I’m extremely grateful to St. Bonaventure because the university provided me with the financial aid that made it possible for me to attend,” Ryan said. “I received an excellent education that provided me with a solid foundation.”

He said he hopes that students who attend his lecture will find their passion and be proactive in their career path.

“Be willing to take risks,” he suggests. “It’s okay to fail if you learn from it and come back wiser and even more determined.”

Ryan has taken his own advice recently and went into early retirement to start his own business in Arizona, where he currently resides.
