A group of unknown males and females allegedly assaulted a St. Bonaventure student after the student left an off-campus student
residence last weekend, according to campus Safety and Security.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, the group approached the student while he walked alone on
Seventh Street in Allegany, according to Vito Czyz, director of the office of safety and security.

“The individual was treated initially by our on campus Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT),” Czyz said. “Security department
staff on the scene became aware of the incident then.”

The student suffered head and upper body injuries and was treated at Olean General Hospital overnight. Czyz said the Safety and Securitygstaff is doing everything they can to solve the crime.

“We are promoting general awareness about off-campus activities after hours, asking for assistance of the campus community to solve this crime, and working closely with local law enforcement authorities in sharing relevant information pertaining to this crime,” Czyz said.

Allegany Police did not comment.

Czyz recommends students take precautions when walking both on and off campus during evening hours by traveling with at least one other person, utilizing the Bona Bus whenever possible, being aware of surroundings and the people near them and by always
informing a friend of their destinations and whereabouts.
