Believe it or not, St. Bonaventure has two more teams headed to the Atlantic 10 Championships.

The women’s tennis team is traveling south to the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va., to compete in the Atlantic 10 tournament. Seeds have not yet been announced but will before play begins next Thursday. The men begin play today in Mason, Ohio.

The women ended the regular season with a 5-2 win at Niagara Wednesday. Last week’s A-10 Performer of the Week, freshman Fatya
Amiri, won in both her singles and doubles matches.

Amiri and her partner, senior Manuela Marin-Salcedo, were only part of the doubles sweep by the Bonnies. The team of junior Amanda Pallikunnel and freshman Marissa Brossard grabbed an 8-3 win. Junior Kathryn Kvas and sophomore Andrea Pavlovic also picked up a win from the No. 3 position with the same score.

Both the men and women lost to Saint Joseph’s  last Sunday. The men lost 5-2, while the women fell 4-3. Juniors Luis Guevara and Oscar Yanez came away with the only doubles victory for the men, 8-6. Yanez and sophomore Elliot Fanshel came away with singles victories.

In women’s action, the women swept doubles action, with teams of Marin-Salcedo and Amiri, Pallikunnel and Brossard, and Pavlovic and Kvas earning doubles victories. Amiri and Brossard were the only two who won in singles play.

One week earlier, both the men’s and women’s team picked up conference wins against La Salle. In women’s singles action, both Amiri and Pallikunnel shut out their opponents. Marin-Salcedo also picked up a win in singles action. On the men’s side, Guevara, sophomore Javier Ortiz, Fanshel and freshmen Miguel Suarez and Trevor Haskell all claimed singles victories.
